Herm is a tiny island, just one and a half miles long, and is often described as 'The Jewel in the Channel Islands' Crown'. Imagine an island with glorious white sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise sea, gentle rolling countryside dotted with a few buildings and no traffic, and you have a pretty accurate picture of Herm.

Visitors arrive at the picturesque harbour after a 20 minute ferry ride from Guernsey. The pastel coloured cottages around the harbour house craft and gift shops, and the Ship Inn. Further along the path is the Mermaid Tavern with its café and restaurant. In the centre of the island, a castellated Manor incorporates the tiny school and 11th century chapel still used for services today. The temperate climate on Herm encourages palms and sub-tropical plants, and wild flowers flourish throughout the spring and summer. Footpaths around and across the island provide several different walks, while along the coastline a variety of beaches and coves offer children traditional seaside activities such as paddling, messing about in rockpools, shell collecting and building sandcastles.

Visitors today have a choice of accommodation from the luxury of the White House Hotel overlooking the sea to self-catering in the Manor Village Cottages or camping under the stars.
