Also within driving distance is Plymouth, where Drake first sighted the Spanish Armada whilst he played bowls and 'the steps', where the Mayflower sailed for America with the pilgrim fathers. The attractive coastal resorts of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham are also within easy reach, while further along the coast is the beautiful South Devon 'Hams' comprising the picturesque towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, Salcombe and Kingsbridge.
